When trust is broken within a school community, the impact reaches far beyond a single family. At O’Brien & Ford, our hearts go out to every student, parent, and community member affected by these deeply troubling allegations. The teacher accused of sexual abuse had been employed within the Pine Valley Central School District in Chautauqua County, where concerns came to light through an internal complaint. In situations like this, our role centers on supporting survivors, protecting their rights, and ensuring accountability. The investigation will examine the full scope of what occurred, but someone must ensure all questions are answered, and every child’s safety remains paramount.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office got a formal complaint about a Pine Valley Central School employee on December 3. Detectives collaborated with district officials to collect information and speak with witnesses. Their work uncovered facts pointing toward illegal behavior, which prompted prosecutors to file criminal charges.
Robert Slisz, a 33-year-old educator employed by the Pine Valley School District, has been identified as the teacher accused of sexual abuse. Slisz served in an instructional capacity within the district, holding a position of trust and authority over students.
Authorities have charged Slisz with third-degree sexual abuse, forcible touching, and endangering the welfare of a child. Under New York Penal Law Section 130.55, third-degree sexual abuse occurs when a person subjects another individual to sexual contact without consent, carrying a classification as a class B misdemeanor. The additional charges reflect the serious nature of the alleged conduct and the vulnerability of the young person involved.
Following the filing of charges, Slisz voluntarily surrendered to the Chautauqua County Jail and has been scheduled to appear in the Town of Cherry Creek Court. The legal process will unfold through arraignment, where formal charges will be read and a plea entered, followed by discovery, during which the prosecution and defense exchange evidence. The case may ultimately proceed to trial or be resolved through a negotiated plea agreement.
Superintendent Shanda DuClon released an official statement confirming that concerns were reported to school administrators before the arrest. According to the district’s announcement, the individual was immediately placed on leave while an internal investigation commenced and law enforcement was notified. The district emphasized full cooperation with ongoing efforts and encouraged anyone with relevant information to contact the school or the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department.
